Bowel disease destroys lives. Every 15 minutes someone is diagnosed with bowel cancer in this country. Every 30 minutes someone dies. Yet tragically, bowel cancer is one of the easiest cancers to treat if it is detected early and one of the most difficult if it is detected late. Early screening and detection of bowel cancer and the diagnosis and treatment of other bowel disorders are therefore vital tools in avoiding preventable deaths and suffering.
Beating bowel disease. Saving lives.
David was just 18 when he had to undergo major surgery at St. Mark’s. For years, David and his family had been turned away from emergency departments who couldn’t find a cause for his chronic stomach pains.
Eventually a paediatric gastric specialist diagnosed severe Crohn’s disease and immediately referred David to St. Mark’s – one of the few hospitals in the country able to provide the specialist treatment and pre and post operative care he so badly needed.

we changed his name.
Our mission is simple - to save and improve the lives of those suffering from colorectal and intestinal disorders. By raising funds for more research at St. Mark’s and educating the public on early detection together we can save lives.
We therefore hope that you will support ongoing research, education and training at St. Mark’s by giving to the hospital’s charity, St. Mark’s Hospital Foundation. Your help will ensure that the world’s first and still one of the world’s finest, specialist hospitals continues to push the boundaries of patient care and research in the fight against bowel disease.
